Sikkim is one of the most beautiful north-eastern state of India, surrounded by three international borders side. Gangtok is its capital. it's northern border is with Tibet (which is now part of China), west with Nepal and east with Bhutan. Only the southern border is with India and that is with the state of West Bengal, to be more specific with Darjeeling district.
Almost the whole of Sikkim is in a hilly terrain surrounded by the Himalayan mountain range. The altitude across Sikkim varies widely and ranges from the lowest elevation of 280m (920ft) to the highest point of Kanchenjunga peak which lies at the border of Sikkim and Nepal and at an altitude of 8,586m (28,169ft). The altitude of the capital Gangtok is 5,410ft.
Sikkim was an independent dynasty of Namgyal kingdom from 1642 until 1975 when it eventually joined India and became its 22nd state. During the Namgyal monarchy, it has been invaded by the bordering countries Nepal and Bhutan several times when it succumbed to these external forces but regained its control through a strange turn of events.
So what can you expect in Sikkim?. fascinating views of the Himalayas including Mount Kanchenjunga snow peaks, numerous mountain streams many of which eventually merge with river Teesta and river Rangeet, lovely river valleys, and meadows, several high altitude lakes & hot springs, and even high altitude passes that connect the state with Tibet, Nepal, and Bhutan.
There are around 5,000 varieties of flowers including orchids (over 400 types) and rhododendrons that can be seen across the state of Sikkim. In the forests of Sikkim, you can spot wildlife such as snow leopards, clouded leopards, red panda, Tibetan wolf, Asian black bear, and other wildlife. In the upper reaches of Sikkim, yaks can be seen in plenty that is used mostly to carry loads for locals and trekkers.

Enjoy fresh healthy breakfast at your hotel with the group and proceed to Lachen. en-route, visit Singhik Viewpoint which is surrounded by lush green hills and has the Teesta River gushing right below it. Check out the magnificent views of Mt. Khangchendzonga and Mt. Siniolchu from the point, before resuming your Lachen tour. Next, witness the magnificent glory of the Seven Sisters Waterfall along with the Naga Waterfall that lies on the way to your homestay in Lachen. You can relax in your room or visit the local, overnight dinner and stay at Homestay.
Today after breakfast in the morning, dotted with picturesque landscapes, remote offbeat spots and delicious momos on the way, get transferred to the quaint village of Lachung. Indulge in a delicious early morning breakfast before setting out for Chopta Valley & Gurudongmar Lake. Next, get to Gurudongmar Lake the second highest lake in the world, and gape in wonder at its emerald blue waters and the snow-capped mountains bordering it. Overnight stay at Homestay/Guesthouse.
After Early morning breakfast we will go on a half day excursion to Yumthang Valley (11800 Ft / 3598 Mts / 25 Kms / 1 ½ hours one way) also known as Valley of Flowers. Visit to Yumthang Valley is a day excursion from Lachung, which is an attraction for tourist visiting this region. The soaring snow-capped peaks and herds of wandering yaks make this a Himalayan paradise. Valley is also known for its Hot spring, On the way back, visit the Hot Spring which is claimed to have medicinal properties. Although the water is quite dirty, many locals from the area visit to get themselves soaked & cured as believed. Arrive at Gangtok in the evening and check-in to your hotel. Overnight Dinner and Stay at Hotel.
After your breakfast, this morning, check out from your Hotel & proceed for the NJP station/ Bagdogra Airport (IXB) with lots of memory and many new friends.

Me and my sons 19 and 17 years, were desperate to do a cycling tour in India after our Nepal tour with Explore Himalaya.I was nervous doing this kind of trip in India. However, our guide Akshay had planned out the safest tour and he was very safety conscious. It was an enjoyable 8-day trip and though there were some nerve-wracking road rides, most of the trip was awesome with few to no traffic. Would definitely recommend Explore Himalaya to other travelers.
